I just got an email today from someone who got my last comedy demo:

"Chistopher, your comedy CD is awesome. My stomach hurts now though, so I'm not sure if I'm mad at you, or if I'm really excited for you! *L*This, of course, if just a quick one... the more detailed review of the other CDs is going to much longer. Maybe :) We'll see what the stomach has to say about it all...Ugh! :P"

Even if this person told me that they hated my demo I'd still post the letter because I like that someone actually listened to my work.

Drop me an email if you are interested in recieving my latest comedy demo. I thought that I was on a real roll when I recorded this a month ago but then I just got so busy with work that I couldn't find the time to concentrate on writing or going out to some comedy clubs. Hopefully that'll change soon.

I didn't doubt that I would, but I got good responses from my first two demo CDs and am in the process of polishing material for a new demo. On the new CD I will include new material and the first two demos. Someone asked me if my new demo will be longer. I told them that it wouldn't. It will be darker though.

I recorded about ten minutes of stuff the other day and made about 6 copies. I could swear that I checked them all to make sure they actually played but the one that I brought in to work for Gary does not play. In the last 3 weeks I got the DVD of Seinfeld on Broadway, a Jeff Foxworthy stand-up DVD and a Brad Stine CD. If I hear one more comedian do a bit about how women can do this and that but are afraid of a spider I will scream. This is the kind of stuff that comedians do when they are first starting out. It's not funny. It's...just...not...funny.

This week I am going to record another CD in the next few days. Learned a lot since the last one. Better writing. Not as rushed. More spontaneous. I have all of my material memorized but for some reason it's scary to record myself with no notes where I can see them. I practice routines in my car when I'm driving around and they sound so much better than when I can peak at notes. I got the Jerry Seinfeld DVD that was filmed on Broadway. It seemed like the atmosphere was too stuffy for his down-to-earth, everyday-man's comedy style. I like his stand up stuff that was used at the beginning and end of each episode of Seinfeld better.

I finally made the CD. Fourteen minutes and forty-eight seconds long. Recorded the day before yesterday. I think I rolled through too much stuff way too quickly. I can't listen to it objectively. The one thing I learned though is to just to keep weak material in the notebook and don't let it come out until it has some muscle.

I did give a copy to a friend who is a television reporter and she said that she laughed but also that it didn't really sound like me and how I normally speak. She also said that I shouldn't give up. Who would really tell another person that they should just give up anyway? I think that we need more honesty like that though. "Hey, what did you think of my comedy CD?" "I think that you should just give up!" This kind of honesty would save people years of failure and stop them from becoming chain-smoking alcoholics all because someone told them to just give up at the very beginning of their endeavor. We need to appoint a group of people to go around and tell people that they should just give up.

I've been doing lots of writing. Well, a little here and there. I don't know if I want to give up on recording my stuff but I am putting it on hold - at least doing it for other people to hear. I've researched open mic nights and as soon as my work schedule normalizes I will just starting hitting these places and record my stage stuff.
